~... It was much on a night like tonight that it had happened. The young Count Dupont had inherited the Chateaux at the tender age of fifteen. His parents had been killed in a ruthless and bloody ambush by thieves as they had returned from the Opera. As their carriage had slowed down to cross the bridge, they were set upon by cowardly murderers. His father had fought valiantly defending them both but his small flintlock Avbert pistol was no match against three of them at close range with daggers. They had been taken totally by surprise.
The young Count had been woken from his sleep by their blood curdling screams. Screams that would haunt him all his life, screams that had changed his destiny on that fateful night. He had mourned for many years the death of his beloved parents and for most part remained in seclusion in the Chateaux. So when he had taken a wife, the daughter of a rich land owner, it was the subject of many hushed conversations, of assumptions, inuendo and intrigue. But after one year of marriage when it was announced that a son was born to the Count Dupont and his wife Claire, people had decided that for all intent and purposes, the marriage seemed normal and the Count was no longer a subject of discussion even though they never ventured from the Chateaux. They were no longer newsworthy. Until........that fateful morning. The staff had woken to ready the house and prepare breakfast as they always did and when little Jaque a mere child of five didn't as he usually did every morning, come bounding down the stairs to torment the chef in his playful childlike ways, Emile' the young housemaid was sent to his chambers to ready him for the family breakfast. Emile' had found them. Young Jaque was still in his oversized four poster bed with a pillow over his sweet little face. The Countess Claire lay over him as if to protect him but the back of her evening gown was drenched in drying blood, a dagger in her back. And the Count Dupont was hanging from a noose that had been tied to the frame of the poster bed. After this tragedy, it was discovered that the Count Dupont had never really been sane since the death of his parents. Stories of strange happenings, events and incidents had started to filter from his loyal staff who loved and cared for the Count since his parents death. Of pets being found mutilated, of the Count himself having many scars on his arms and legs from self mutilation and even more disturbing to the Gendarmes who investigated this tragedy, of various staff member supposedly disappearing never to return to work. When the investigation had taken place it was quite by chance that during the investigation the moat was being cleaned of weeds and slime, that a human skull was caught in the dredge. Many more were found in the moat after that discovery. And so it is that the Chateux has lain empty for near on twenty years now.....for no-one will go near it and despite the search far and wide by the trustees of the Estate, a new owner cannot be found, no matter what the price. For it is said that on a cold moon night, the blood curdling screams of Count and Countess Dupont can be heard and the ghosts of their son, his wife and child are seen in the windows by those that pass the bridge. Never mistake my Kindness for weakness
What ever you do ......... do it well!
~~~ Another well done piece of art and the story is as compelling a the art, pulling one into it, and holding one's attention as effectively does the work of art that the story was made to go with. All and in all inclusive, both great works! ~~~
come and nestle thy wounded spirit in the feathers of my oasis and feel it
feel the softest lightest touch of soothing
hear the gentlest barely audible words of one who through them is renewing
all that life has cast thy way, this I vow, each night on
